I played the Hoenn region ones: Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald.
I'd always pick torchic because its evolutions are lethal fire and fight combos.

Squirtle because Blastoise is a beast
Blastoise is arguably the best final evolution out of the 3 haha
Blastoise (Squirtle) because I don't care much for speed and I like the balanced defense stats and attack stats. Also, Blastoise has the least number of weaknesses
