Just found this #Nostr events calendar. Looks pretty good. Anyone know anything about it. Is it a pretty decent resource. nostr:npub1tvqc82mv8cezhax5r34n4muc2c4pgjz8kaye2smj032nngg52clq0rkrq4 nostr:npub18ams6ewn5aj2n3wt2qawzglx9mr4nzksxhvrdc4gzrecw7n5tvjqctp424 nostr:npub1jzuma368395gu523y4vk4d34p0lxgctk436hggn4qcuj93075qgqtn3vm0

nostr:npub1zach44xjpc4yyhx6pgse2cj2pf98838kja03dv2e8ly8lfr094vqvm5dy5 is the developer. We met him at Nostrville. He's super talented. Spread the word. No more Meetup or FB Events. Flockstr only! 🔥🔥🔥

Thats what I wanted to know. Great too hear it. Gonna spread the hell out of this as most of us have wanted this for a while

We need a FOSS replacement to Meetup and FB events

That is NOT free and open source software

https://github.com/zmeyer44/flockstr/blob/main/LICENSE

Much disappoint.

This is not the way.

Creative Commons is not meant for software anyways. 🙄

Which is odd because a lot of people use it as a license even though the CC website specifically says to not do that.

Oops, I just copied and pasted from a different nostr repo. Can you recommend some resources to looking at licenses?

No worries my man. MIT is probably what you'd want here? nostr:npub1gcxzte5zlkncx26j68ez60fzkvtkm9e0vrwdcvsjakxf9mu9qewqlfnj5z uses that for Amethyst. I am not a license expert at all though.

Wen expert?

I'll let you tackle that task.

PhD incoming

But if it’s not MIT I will mock you.

It is now 🤙

MIT is the king of code decentralization.

You can look at a lot of them here:

https://opensource.org/licenses/

MIT is a “do whatever you want with my work” license.

Others have various levels of restrictions, such as limiting someone from being able to keep their changes private (like GPL)

Hopefully he will consider a license change. Considering the choice of no derivatives on CC it seems his goal is “source available” not “open source.”

Far be it from me to throw shade, but I think the advice to not use CC is solid.

He did. It's MIT now

Licenses are hard and confusing. It's probably best to ask why a license was chosen.

It is now 🤙

Like a ₿oss

Its super limited, has lots of quirks. Im trying to use it but cant make calendars there and cant edit or set all the fields its plugging in, so im resorting to manual event creation now.

Still, its a good start from a quick hackathon project

Hey, I'd love to help if you're facing any issues with calendar creation. Feel free to reach out in DMs

nostr:npub1zach44xjpc4yyhx6pgse2cj2pf98838kja03dv2e8ly8lfr094vqvm5dy5

just gonna put here so others can see whats needed as DMs get buried and there is nowhere to post these as git issues

I need a way to add events and either not be the host, or specify someone else as the host

I need to set more precision on the geocache

I need to know what spec is for the tags used when referencing images for events and calendar as its not in NIP52 and ideally you and coracle and other clients trying to support would establish and document that standard

Good points. But there is a git issue list at https://github.com/zmeyer44/flockstr/issues . I opened an issue yesterday.

Thanks for posting what the repo is, since the site doesnt reveal.

The license on Flockstr is not FOSS, and hence I cant contribute to it.

Good point too. At least the nostr protocol is open, so are the events posted on Flockstr. So as posters we still own the data which can be re-used at other calendar clients, that makes it different compared to Meetup.com or so. Anyhow I also prefer to see a FOSS license for the client as well.

On the image issue, something else important here is what the expected dimensions or ratio is for display in flockstr without truncating or scaling
