That's about 4.5 oz of gold at the time, which is now about $18,000 now for a semester, or $36,000 for a full year.

To compare, in-state tuition for West Virginia University today is $30k and for out of state $45k.

This isn't the deal you think it is because inflation has completely broken our sense of money.

Further complicated by the technological deflation since the 70s. Flat screen TVs went from infinite(imaginary) to a few hundred cuck bucks.

Unskilled pay was $1.25/h back then.

vs

$15/h today.

The golf price was artificially fixed at $35/oz in 1971 but was $180 in 1974 when it was freely traded. That’s probably a better number to start from, which would imply more like 0.85 oz gold ~$3,300

People need to do this exercise more often.

I’ve got a chart of the S&P vs Gold and it tells such a clear story. We peaked in 2000, and it’s been downhill ever since.

Bitcoin vs Gold is still looking great, though the gains aren’t quite as extravagant as people think.
