For a sys-admin / dev wanting to run his own nodes (#nostr relay, #bitcoin & #lightning node), would you recommend using something like umbrel or eos, or go raw and install things from source to really learn and understand what’s under the hood?
And, would you recommend going on self hosted hardware or a is a VPS sovereign enough?
Few things. If you just starting, go with Umbrell! Good for learning without making too many fatal mistakes.
Don’t run relay and LN node on the same server.
If you don’t have experience hosting your own servers, use VPS, will be safer for you and your node.
For relay, not sure why you would want one, you’ll need to budget for hardware and bandwidth. Depends on number of active users a lot.
