I’ve had an older DS918+ for a few years. I’ve got Western Digital Red NAS drives and Samsung NVMe drive in mine and haven’t had any issues with those.
Advice required.
Have a synology ds923+. Haven’t got the drives yet or the nvme drives.
What is everyone using or suggest. Obviously synology want you to buy theirs but prices are jacked. Also not sure how anal they are with suggested compatible drives

I’m a complete mine to this. Are nas drives designed diff than normal ones??
There are some differences. The NAS drives are in theory optimised for use in a NAS RAID array with their firmware and hardware design and you may get longer life out of them. I’ve never tried running standard desktop drives in my NASes to know whether it really makes a real difference though.
