I'd highly recommend "Civil Disobendience" by Henry Thoreau. It's been quite a while since I've read this and damn, this short book could have been written yesterday.

Dude goes to jail because he says it's morally wrong to pay taxes to a government that allows slavery and is fighting a war with Mexico. He was also against a standing army.

Someone pays his tax bill so he released after 1 night. He protests but they kick him out.

Yes it's from the 1880s, but this guy would have been stacking sats on his farm in his cabin in 2024.
