Yeah, that doesn't really mean anything to me. A less flowery way to say that is, "love is a feeling in your chest," but so is anxiety. And bodily feelings don't really accomplish much.

Love is probably the result of an entourage of hormone presence and concentration. I think of emotions as the music a symphony makes and the hormones involved as the instruments. Each alone is unique, but none alone can produce the awe inspiring presentation of Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture. The music scores are literally the recipe giving the instrument, the note, the volume, the nuance. The outcome is outrageously complex, as are our emotions.

Romantic love is dumb to try to define.

Have a child & the word love doesn’t cover the lengths you’d go to comfort/protect them & want to see them succeed. Words are spells. Don’t get caught up in dumb words.

Emotion is felt in far greater ways than in your chest. Don't tell me you haven't felt love before?

Sure, but do particularly strong feelings generally make people more or less intelligent?

Emotions have more power than intelligence

Emotions without a considerable amount of awareness & intelligence to guide & direct & temper them, are the source of most of the evils in all of human history.

While there are sometimes emotionless psychos pulling the strings once in a while, its the masses of people controlled by their emotions that really bring all of the horrors to life.

Nah. Psychopathy often is a scab covering wounds. I think emotions are likely the truest practice of humanity itself, truth is often brutal and ugly, but in time, the only way to proceed after all other paths are exhausted.

Emotions may motivate, but without a rational direction they motivate people who are unhappy with whatever is happening to riot in the streets & tear shit up like dumb animals. Rationality builds bitcoin & nostr & keet & other tools of liberation. Our capacity for rational & productive behavior is what sets us apart from all the other creatures on earth. We share huge % of our DNA with other dumb but caring creatures. Humanity exists at the margin, everything that makes us human is rational. Caring about anyone or anything a whole lot is meaningless if you don't know how to care for it appropriately. A child can love a ginuea pig to death.

Excellent points. Perhaps emotions are one of the tools that our prefrontal cortex uses along with sensory inputs with applied rationale for moderation, interpretation, and application. That is until the amygdala gets involved anyway. 😁
