Can you abuse using the quotes feature on nostr?

Are there times where it is considered inappropriate and people can misinterpet it as you trying to steal some of their thunder?

I can't figure out if quotes are endearing and give credit where credit is due, or if some people get offended by you using it for one of their posts.

Please tell me your thoughts on this subject matter. I am looking for some guidance and advice on the appropriate use for quotes from the Nostr community on this one.

I find quoting actually nice. At least they see the contents original poster.

And it's practically the same as a boost

I don’t see any problem, if the content is valuable I zap anyway the original creator, if anything you are supporting them!

If you're quoto without adding anything additional a boost would probably suffice. If you are providing a different point of view, or adding additional context a quote makes sense.

Amethyst has a great feature to split zaps for quotes. This let's you quote, but still share any financial rewards with the OP.

Not everyone cares about zaps. I know you have me muted but some of us actually don't like fragmenting discussion because we want disagreements to get fully discussed and stuff

Maybe other clients will incorporate the split feature in the future.

It can be abused & I have embarrassed myself mistaking it for abuse when it was just accidental

I always try to suggest replying & reposting (either your reply, the original post, or both)

To me - it appears functionally the same as the boost/repost - except you can add your own thoughts to it... am I wrong?
