I kinda think comedy is like wine and cheese. Everyone has a different palate and preference.
So generally loathe to recommend.
My taste generally skews to biting satire… which probably tells you more about me than anything else.
For a version that even my mum loves, try Tom Gleeson.

Jk, but still disagree slightly. There's a level of objective-ish skill in delivery, refinement, and insight, that is sorta measurable, imHo.
Completely get what you mean about timing and skill etc.
I suppose what I mean is that just because they are a skilled or successful comedian it doesn’t necessarily follow that you might like their routine or them as a comic.
There are some very successful talents that some people dislike for their own reasons and sense of humour eg Will Ferrell - one friend loves, one friend hates (and they are married to one another 🤭)
