All of us amateur martial artists have to pay for a fight and rarely know who our opponent is or their skill level until we've won or had our ass beat.

This is why I immediately lose all respect for pros who are picky about the opponent they face. Much prefer fighters like Cowboy who accepted any fight on any notice. Asking for a higher rank fighter during negotiations is fine but strategically turning down fights is a surefire way to lose me as a fan.
