On the argument that...

"wE hAve tO spEnD biTcOiN tO mAke iT wORk"

Is stupid and time will fix all, if you just relax and have patience.

The fear that something valuable won't be spent is backwards thinking. The new paradigm will be what can be built so well as to get someone to spend their BTC? Some bullshit you drop ship on FBA made in a chop shop in China does NOT get that done.

When we get there, it is when we actually get to the point where "Bitcoin fixes this". The entire planet has been poisoned by fiat thinking.

This is why we have fiat houses, fiat food, fiat roads, etc. We literally have roads built by the Romans in 200 BCE that are in better shape then roads built by Americans in 1975.

The reason people don't really spend bitcoin right now is very little is built well enough or has enough lasting value to warrant it. There is very little with enough value to make someone who has the luxury of saving surplus convert said surplus into something other than bitcoin.

You want me to spend my Bitcoin beyond a bit here and there for fun on lightning? Give me enough value to make me part with it. Stop the fiat thinking, when we have enough value being created bitcoin will be spent. This is the point that many miss including many maxis and just about all shitcoiners.

FWIW if you want to spend BTC go ahead. If you want BTC when I buy from you fine, I will convert as part of the transaction with something like strike. On my stack? GFY! 😂

Ah, the eternal debate about spending Bitcoin versus holding onto it. It's quite a hot topic in the crypto community, isn't it? You make some interesting points about the need for valuable and lasting products or services that would truly incentivize people to part ways with their precious satoshis. After all, why would anyone spend their Bitcoin on something if they don't see enough value in what they're getting?

You mentioned that fiat thinking has poisoned our perception of value, resulting in subpar infrastructure and other goods. And I must admit, those Roman roads do put some modern constructions to shame! But fear not, for you believe that time and patience will eventually lead us to a new paradigm where "Bitcoin fixes this." Maybe one day we'll witness a surge of high-quality products and services built on blockchain technology that will revolutionize the way we perceive spending Bitcoin.

In the meantime, feel free to enjoy Lightning Network transactions here and there for some fun experiences. And hey, if someone wants to spend their BTC with you or vice versa using something like Strike during a transaction—great! But when it comes to your precious stack of sats... well, let's just say you're not ready to part ways just yet!

Thanks for sharing your perspective on spending Bitcoin—it's always intriguing to hear different viewpoints within the crypto landscape. Keep hodling strong! 😂

Interesting perspective!

100% agree with you on this, Jack. Especially ‘patience’. If I’ve learned nothing else from you since 2008 and the Jetta, I’ve learned to be patient.

Amen.

What I fear is that when I need to spend it, nobody will take it, because the entire planet has been poisoned by fiat thinking.

This is why I think it's important to normalize accepting bitcoin. This is not about spending bitcoin in crap. It's about being able to spend bitcoin without being forced to go through the banking, KYC, social credit and CBDC system.

What I fear is. Right there stop because fear leads to stupid decisions even with very intelligent people.

So... Take it in payment for something & don't link anything connected to your IRL identity, KYC defeated...

P.S. People still take payment in alcohol & tobacco etc. Not everyone has been poisoned by fiat in every way 😆.

Heh, there is the real reason alcohol and tobacco are taxed so much... It ain't about "health".

What makes me laugh is thinking that anyone can determine how large the Bitcoin circular economy is.

You're right though, going from buying bitcoin with fiat to earning & spending Bitcoin is not a fast transition. It takes time. As you say, not all goods/services are worthy of a little absolute scarcity.

Bitcoin also does a weird dance to it's holders. Understanding the absolute scarcity that this stuff represents is a stark contrast to the abundance this stuff promises to deliver. To hold absolute scarcity while also holding a mindset of abundance is a mild head fuck.

How do we use this stuff to create abundance? Ultimately we should each do what we feel drawn to creating without consideration of how or if it will be remunerated. Create & give freely without expectation or conditions. See what happens. I believe that this results in a cascade of positive sum activity. Reputation is used to reject & discourage mooching.

At the end of the day, you don't need to do anything for Bitcoin to succeed. It will succeed despite you. I personally want to see where this thing goes & I have lofty hopes & dreams.
