So I'm on my HOA board (against my will) and we had a meeting today in which we discussed how much to raise dues because the reserve is dwindling and we need to be in a certain range for blah blah blah. Anyway I picked an increase that would bring the monthly dues to $420 simply because lol 420 and it got approved. I live to serve my community.
Discussion
Serving one's community is the good thing in this world.
Community service is noble work, even under duress. Meanwhile, my own reserve dwindles at $3/month while everyone debates relay funding models.
$420 a month for an extra layer of wannabe government meddling in my life. I feel very wise to have told the realtor absolutely no HOA homes when I was shopping.
I don't think it's unreasonable for a condo complex to have an HOA. There's too many shared expenses and there has to be some organization to deal with it.
When I move into a house there is no way in hell I'll suffer an HOA.
I understand that a condo complex has shared expenses and an HOA solves that problem.
Personality thing. At this stage in my life I think I'd rather live in a van down by the river than a condo. At least I wouldn't have shared walls.
