"It worries me that no large entity/influencer has talked about this in any meaningful detail."

I regularly get DMs from random bitcoiners asking about nostr:npub17tyke9lkgxd98ruyeul6wt3pj3s9uxzgp9hxu5tsenjmweue6sqq4y3mgl FUD & the dynamics around cold storage tool development.

This is worth a read; it’s shared w/ the author's permission.

The saddest part of all this is the bitcoin crowd, generally thinks of themselves as counter culture and think-your-self types, is as susceptible to marketing and advertising as any other population.

I'm too close to the HWW issue, I've audited nearly all of them in some fashion and prefer not to use one.

Despite this I still get asked for recommendations.

I used to get pissed off about this, but I don't even care anymore. People will follow the VC backed influencers 🤷‍♂️

I think just focus on being punk, it will resonate with the people that care. It sucks that NVK and his crew slams you guys, but he seems to do that to competition...

Anyway, I don't even use a seed signer. But I recognize a punk DIY ethos when I see it.

Be the counter to the counter-counter culture you wanna see

Nvk's actions speak louder than the quality of the product. Just my opinion. "Stay humble..."

I would respect someone who was genuinely opposed to the concept of open source and stuck to their guns.

To repeatedly fork other projects and close the source and hassle other devs, some who never even used any of your code, is just showing you are a bad actor in the space.

I've bought my last coinkite product and I will no longer recommend them to others. I will however continue to purchase from and donate to devs who are harassed just for doing the open source freedom code thing.
