The answer is quite simple: it's because of HUMANS. But let me explain a bit more. A lot of the time, people tend to be really selfish and mostly care about themselves. They don't really care about others because they believe their success is all because of their own hard work. They often don't realize that is mostly luck -their family, the country they live in, and even the time they were born play a big role. This way of thinking can lead to a world where people are only interested in what they want and don't want to help those who need it.
Even people who used to be poor and then became rich can start acting this way. Even though there are good-hearted people who care about others, it seems like a whole bunch of people are more focused on themselves than on helping others.
