The storage problem in a nutshell:

Who maintains all the content?

Where is the content stored?

Who pays for the storage?

Who owns the content?

All of these things are handled by YouTube, since it’s a company with massive server farms and advertising revenue.

Take that away and try to build a decentralized version of YouTube, and it becomes a much harder problem to solve.

If we take responsibility for storing and owning our own content, and maintaining it and paying for it etc. Then couldn't we come up with some sort of decentralized hub here? Like a place where we can offer our content and search for others folks content. I don't know that we need a centralized gatekeeper necessarily?

🤔 I don't actually know how to do anything like this though so take my musings with a grain of salt 😅

It’s been discussed. This is not remotely the first time. I just don’t know who is seriously working on it.

This is why I think/hope a lot of media hosting on nostr ends up being p2p

Pears.com seems promising, although Im uncomfortable with how much funding they get from Tether. But its open source
