Money is a tricky topic because it’s not a natural concept.

There’s no “money” in nature. It’s a tool – a technology humans created to make transacting easier.

Throughout history, depending on where you lived, money has taken many forms: stones, seashells, glass beads, salt, metals, and now even Bitcoin. Hell, even drugs and cigarettes in prison are used as money today.

Currency, like dollar bills and coins, is a “second layer” built on top of money to make transactions easier (like the Lightning Network is a Layer 2 on top of Bitcoin). But currency requires trust in the issuer – usually a government.

The problem is, most people don’t think deeply about what money really is. For them, dollars are money, end of story.

But if they stopped to dig deeper, they might realize that new technologies, like Bitcoin, can actually be better forms of money. More secure, more transparent, trust-less, and efficient.

If you think of money as a technology it’s easier to wrap your mind around new possibilities.
