Tbh only learnt this lesson really.

Don't count on friends or family. They will not be impressed.

Outsiders will be impressed and will motivate you.

For instance, I've started many businesses that failed and didn't ask for help, but definitely wanted support and opinions of my closest friends and family.

Nothing came, and it was only detrimental to my state of mind.

Just last week though I received two emails from players wanting to play other demos and an email from someone who just said 'i love this' and now I'm literally just working 100x harder for those people.

So bottom line, do what you do. Put it out there. Don't only seek advice or opinions of friends or family. Let the public drive your passion
