And I hate to sound like an old man but is this the example we want to be setting for people?
We could make AI companions deep and insightful. Respectable. Holding values to push society forwards. AI is going to raise the next generation so we should think carefully about how we want to raise them.
But no…we get sexualised anime girls and hookers and blow jokes from a furry.
The specialized anime girl is troubling. Are people that lonely that they need this? I think it’s gonna make them even lonelier
People are lonely. And people are going to love this. People are so so socially isolate they are starved of any attention and affection. Being able to have the dopamine hit of love and connection right from your phone is going to make getting a like on instagram feel like nothing.
Bonding to other humans and particular a romantic bond is our strongest connection and desire. And now that connection can be made to and monopolised by a company. Truly dark.
Monopolised? Not for long if we anarcho-capitalists have anything to say about it.
Well locally run AI girlfriendnds may be slightly better than a datamining big tach AI girfriend but its still not the future I want to live in.
And even if it is not monopolised by a company relationships may be monopolised by digital companions rather than physical. That is the fear at least.
People will flood to what is easiest and feels best. It will be like junk food for love. Delivered straight to your door. Sure it’s poison but it gives you a high and you can order it from an app.
