Custom is more credible imo. Though to be honest I don't really think the NIP 05 verification is worth all that much.
One thing to keep in mind is that itās not verification. In damus we call it your ānostr addressā now. Itās just a way to create an email-like identifier for your pubkey. Choose the one that you like the most. Custom domains are much better of course, but anyone could create a custom domain that includes your name, so we try not to call it verification anymore.

Get a domain, get an SSL certificate from a widely recognised certification authority.
Put the NIP-05 identifier nostr.JSON at the domain.
Point your client at your nostr.JSON identifier URL.
Other solutions are available.
There are choices to make regarding privacy, anonymity, imposters, etc. You canāt have your cake and eat it.
