Remember when the left was anti war?
Discussion
Hell yes I do. The problem is any ruling party in the US automatically becomes pro-war, because that’s the default of our nation
Military spending and priorities can never be questioned by either party in power. I seem to recall a certain president 6 decades ago who tried to warn us about this.
When I bring this up with some left leaning friends, they almost seem like it never crossed their mind.
1910's - Woodrow Wilson was very pro-war despite campaigning for no war
1930's and 40's - Communists were anti-war until Russia got invaded and then were pro-war, like the rest of the left
1950's - The left was pro-war and Truman lost to Eisenhower who wanted to end the Korean War
1960's - The left was pro-war until they actually had to go fight and only the radical left was anti-war for a short time toward the end
1990's - Everyone was pro-war, including the left
2000's - They were pro Afghanistan, and only anti-Iraq after a year or so.
Historically, the right has been more isolationist. It's only with the advent of the neocons in the 70's that they've become very pro-war. 1971 really was a watershed year because the US had to start defending the dollar hegemony through military means.
I kinda take exception to the term isolationist. In US political speech it’s the lie you say about anyone who is even slightly non-militaristic.
Given its proper definition, no one I can think of fits the term.
Progressive are always for war
Heck, history teachers taught WW2 is what pulled the USA out of the Great Depression
War creates opportunity for profiteers.
It’s less obvious you are the cause of war when you stand ready to fund all parties. That is what the history of banking was built on. Funding wars.
This one chart sums up Afghanistan.
1. Notice Afghan opium production pre and post 2003.
2. What was a major problem facing the US population around 2010-2012 to current?

Nope never.
Progressives have the steering wheel and the gas pedal. Conservatives (the handful that there are) advocate for hitting the brakes and get called every name in the book for doing so.
