I love that we have wallet diversity (and this is by far not exhaustive list).

Personally, I by default recommend @PhoenixWallet because I'm very reluctant to recommend custodial wallets, that's not what Bitcoin is about.

Many people think that they'll recommend custodial to hook them up and then they'll switch to non custodial. But usually there's no real strategy to when to do it and you meet them months later with the same custodial wallet and if you ask them about it, they have no idea what you're talking about.

If we want low fees and ability to receive, @AquaBitcoin might be a good option, so is Helm (new project, the Mutiny of liquid lightning swaps).

There's a long way to improve the user experience though, my suggestion is:

Still opening and closing channels and the threat of forced closures is a nightmare. I am not a total noob and to get my head around this is confusing. Ended up stuck on Muun with those fees so high it's not worth moving the funds now.

I like Mutiny Wallet

yes, muun is not a lightning wallet. it's an onchain wallet with misleading marketing

Fair point!

This is where it is at right now, there is a lot of misleading information about LN and other Bitcoin L2s and what they are able to deliver in terms of mass adoption. People get sidetracked by solutions that only a few OGs will ever implement!

Thanks 🙏. Need a plan b strategies.

Channel management is pain and forces people to use custodial solution which is much more simple. Risk to lose 50€ i have there is lower pain than managing channels and liquidity.

what is 50€ becomes 5000€ soon. not only because NgU, but you keep using it

there's no channel management with second generation wallets. it just works.

The first one to fully implement Bolt 12 wins afaic.

I hope all of them implement it, that will be a win.

but the spec is not yet final, is it?

Good question. I'm not entirely sure of the finalisation criteria for BOLT specs. The Bolt12.org page and the github are pretty active though. Would be nice to see more devs pitch-in :))

Phoenix, Aqua, and primal

You need to look at Nimiq which is an amazing browser-based wallet and now a payment-optimised native mobile app as Nimiq Pay. Both self-custodial and much more user-friendly and lower tx fees than custodial LN. Also, the app is soon to offer support for a bridge from NIM to LN. I realise this is not quite what you were looking for, but the current situation inescapably leaves the masses stuck on custodial wallets! People simply aren’t going to open Phoenix wallet and deal with the hassle.
