Obviously don’t want a trend starting where physical cash is phased out. But pennies are useless and cost more to produce than they are worth.

I use pennies every single day.

With inflation putting us where we are I just don’t see the utility. It’s less than 1/1000th of an average lunch out.

Because.....taxes. Sales tax and use fees are % based. You need pennies.

Understood. But you can still use cash/coins of higher value. Looks like no other countries have a 0.01 unit because their currencies all suck and made it impractical. Ours was just the latest to suck.

Not really, then you would be giving away money, as they wouldn't be able to give you change.

We are a base 100 cent system and the global reserve.

He's not getting rid of pennies, rather not making them any more.

I'm honestly not sure about the laws. He very well be required by law to maintain XX % of pennies in circulation.

Switching from base 100 to base 20 (nickles) would essentially be admitting that the dollar has lost 80% of its purchasing power.

Exactly.

The best take in the comments.
