what are you looking for in terms of environment? Do you want surf? mountains? nature? What are you trying to maximise?

beach primarily but we love mountains and nature too ๐Ÿค—

Head down Uvita or Dominical area. Not far from all that. If you want to dive, there's Cano island as well and it's close to the butcoin jungle crowd.

If you like sailing, take some time to head north to flamingo area.

CR is known for bitcoin jungle and they've been doing amazing things for years but there are more bitcoin endeavours starting in other places too.

great thanks. where are the bitcoin jungle guys actually located?!

is there a site for finding apartments? or is Airbnb the best bet?

and getting around - you recommend using taxis? rent a scooter? buy a scooter?

we're thinking of 3 months but would love to spend longer if possible. 6 months is our sweet spot for trips like this.

The bitcoin jungle guys are in Uvita. Not sure if they have a specific location. nostr:npub1spdnfacgsd7lk0nlqkq443tkq4jx9z6c6ksvaquuewmw7d3qltpslcq6j7 probably the best person to talk to.

Where I live up north, most people use air BnB because other rentals are commonly organised through local whatsapp groups which is not exactly accessible. You could also try looking at the real estate listing sites as they do lots of property management.

I don't know how things are in Uvita area but up here, have heard comments about lack of occupancy at the moment and pricing is high so recommend pushing on price a little.

As to transport, if you don't have something, you will miss out. There are taxis and "Collectivos" - just random people who drive around and you ride share but some places you might want to see could be more accessible with a 4x4 or scooter. There are some places that rent out the little suzuki Jimny or Daihatsu Terrios at reasonable rates but like everywhere past few years, car rental has gone a little crazy so I'd recommend you try looking on the ground rather than booking beforehand.

Keep in mind in most places on the coast, as soon as high season starts (december), you're bargaining power evaporates!

Iโ€™m a normie with Bitcoin tendencies but can defo advise if youโ€™re curious about North Pacific coast (Nosara is a ways from Bitcoin Jungle heartland but itโ€™s it own โ€˜lil thing). Lmk

that's awesome thanks. what are the costs of a 1 bed apartment? where/how does one find one? how is getting around? taxis? can one rent/buy a scooter? what's the price? and what about grocories- are they accessible? expensive? is the internet good enough for video calls? how is the weather? killer? humid? or pleasant? how rainy is rainy season?

and what about visas? is 3 months strict? can you do a bus run to the border, do a quick exit and entry, and get 3 more months?

we're thinking of coming for like Nov/Dec/jan, longer if poss.

Wowsers, I like a serious trip research mission ๐Ÿ’ช

I can only speak for Nosara, which is the most expensive location in Costa Rica apparently, so everything here hinges on the when question (plus how long).

Nov: Start of high/dry season. Might be possible to find a nice 1 bed in great location for around $2k p/month.

Dec: Gets harder as you get towards Xmas (Xmas week is peak week- lucky to find literally anything), then everything remains in high season gear into Jan-March period.

Look on VRBO or Airbnb for ballpark rentals.

If you want longer period (months rather than weeks) then ask me to hook you into town WhatsApp groups directly.

Groceries: generally very pricey, BUT if you enjoy cooking at home you can get great quality, affordable produce from the weekly town market. Local foods are reasonable cost (e.g. great โ€˜Casadoโ€™ meal around $10).

Transport: Better to have quad/motorcycle/car to make the most of the area (tuk tuk taxi is possible, so you could do periods of vehicle hire). Depending on season, vehicle hire is easy enough.

Defo possible to buy new motorcycle/quad in town & sell on when leaving.

The CR tourist visa is 6 months.

Must show country exit ticket at immigration, but you can just go in/out of Nica etc for the day to renew.

WiFi- variable to good. Many people have 2x systems to mitigate for problems but if this is a deal breaker you could bring own starlink or join co-working space.

Big power outages do happen from time to time.

๐Ÿ˜… I think thatโ€™s it? Lmk

Weather! Hot!!!!!!!

Get a place with aircon for Nov/Dec/Jan-April.

Humidity builds through dry season usually and can be a lot.

Rainy season can be intense, depends on how adventurous you are, I love it as everythingโ€™s so tranquilo with great clear periods.

rainy season for the next 1.5 - 2 months on the pacific coast

good to know

I'm following too as we're looking at our next stop mid/late January ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜

The airbnb prices scare me though ๐Ÿ˜‚ anyone from costa rica with tips on getting a place for 6 people that is affordable lmk!!! ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™
