that's awesome thanks. what are the costs of a 1 bed apartment? where/how does one find one? how is getting around? taxis? can one rent/buy a scooter? what's the price? and what about grocories- are they accessible? expensive? is the internet good enough for video calls? how is the weather? killer? humid? or pleasant? how rainy is rainy season?

and what about visas? is 3 months strict? can you do a bus run to the border, do a quick exit and entry, and get 3 more months?

we're thinking of coming for like Nov/Dec/jan, longer if poss.

Wowsers, I like a serious trip research mission 💪

I can only speak for Nosara, which is the most expensive location in Costa Rica apparently, so everything here hinges on the when question (plus how long).

Nov: Start of high/dry season. Might be possible to find a nice 1 bed in great location for around $2k p/month.

Dec: Gets harder as you get towards Xmas (Xmas week is peak week- lucky to find literally anything), then everything remains in high season gear into Jan-March period.

Look on VRBO or Airbnb for ballpark rentals.

If you want longer period (months rather than weeks) then ask me to hook you into town WhatsApp groups directly.

Groceries: generally very pricey, BUT if you enjoy cooking at home you can get great quality, affordable produce from the weekly town market. Local foods are reasonable cost (e.g. great ‘Casado’ meal around $10).

Transport: Better to have quad/motorcycle/car to make the most of the area (tuk tuk taxi is possible, so you could do periods of vehicle hire). Depending on season, vehicle hire is easy enough.

Defo possible to buy new motorcycle/quad in town & sell on when leaving.

The CR tourist visa is 6 months.

Must show country exit ticket at immigration, but you can just go in/out of Nica etc for the day to renew.

WiFi- variable to good. Many people have 2x systems to mitigate for problems but if this is a deal breaker you could bring own starlink or join co-working space.

Big power outages do happen from time to time.

😅 I think that’s it? Lmk

Weather! Hot!!!!!!!

Get a place with aircon for Nov/Dec/Jan-April.

Humidity builds through dry season usually and can be a lot.

Rainy season can be intense, depends on how adventurous you are, I love it as everything’s so tranquilo with great clear periods.
