Well, I have had about all I can handle of the “fediverse”, there is only so much asinine behavior that I can swallow. 🤦🏻‍♂️

If you love being under the thumb of big tech so much, why bother joining the fediverse at all?

I am willing to bet that a good portion of people that have joined the fediverse, don’t even know why they joined, they just heard it was the next cool place to be. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I joined becuase it an open protocol where I can host my own server. Sure a bunch of folks came in 2022 because of some guy or something but that wasn't me!

I probably should’ve been clearer, I was talking about platforms like mastodon. I just deleted my account because I was tired of hearing people talking about federating with threads, which equates to letting the fix in the hen house.

I apologize, I haven’t had my coffee yet. 😅

What cracks me up about people’s love for this bearded gentleman, he is the reason social media is as toxic as it is and he also talked shit about Nostr when it first came out. So, I find it comical when people praise that guy. 😂

The reason I'm there is because I want to be able to interact with accounts for major game companies and such and I know Nostr won't let me do that. Also, I have my own instance so...🤷‍♂️it's mine.

It’s not that I dislike it in favor of here, it’s just that all of the warm and fuzzy feelings from using a different platform have left, winch allows you to see the big picture a bit clearer.

The fediverse is/was well intentioned but still has some of the same qualities as the platform I just left. The main one obviously being that you are still censored by instance admins. Granted, running your own instance, if it’s sustainable, removes one aspect of that, but does nothing when it comes to other instances.

I don’t think you should be exposed to undesirable individuals, but at the same time, they have the same rights as anyone else.

Nostr, so far, seems to be the first platform that addresses these issues. You are completely free to say what you will, but everyone else is also free to not listen to it.

Putting the power to choose back in the users hands rather than strip power away, will always be a more welcomed option.

Then there’s the sustainability, which is a whole other story.

Yeah...the issue is the sustainability of Nostr and the actual user base. If there were more than a 1% user retention, maybe I'd be here more. However, when there's 1.5 million users and only 15k active, it leaves a lot to be desired. I've literally been trying to give away money and nobody is engaging with the post...🤦‍♂️

I was actually talking about the sustainability of the fediverse. Without having to create ways to bring in revenue, a lot of instances are not going to last and it will only get worse, the more people join. The more people join, the more resources are needed to handle it. More resources equals more money needed. At least if a relay goes down, you have several other relays still running to fill the gap.

Ah, I see. I do think Nostr is doing it the right way for the most part when it comes to that.

Though, the issue for me, besides the low user count, is that there's only 1 way that I know of right now to have my own "site" on Nostr without having any programming knowledge. That's ditto and unfortunately due to the fact that ditto is so new, a lot of things don't work or are very buggy.

When I can be myself and promote my own stuff, it'll be better for me. But as of right now, I have very little reason to be here.

I can understand that. I’m still trying to find my place where I can be myself as well.
