I have no idea who needs to know this but the day after tomorrow, on the 12th, SNCF releases the train tickets for January 9th to March 29th. SNCF is the French railway company, just in case.

Would anyone be interested in a new npub dedicated to European train travel? Thought it would be pretty limited to mainly Austria, where I live, and, secondarily, to Italy and France, where I travel often enough to have a decent opinion on some routes. Sometimes it would be about Switzerland, Germany or the Czech Republic, but rarely.

Normally, I'm into longer routes (eg: Vienna to Cannes), I can post about multi-day journeys that can be broken and adapted by needs, and sometimes I just look into routes for curiosity. If anyone has questions or needs advice, I can help with that too.

I don't know how often I will be able to post, but I want to participate in making Nostr more captivating. So, any takers?

I'd be interested in eventually being able to train travel with kids, but I am not sure it is feasible as currently my little girl likes adventure, not sitting in a train.

If this turns out to be something we will do as a family, I'd love to participate :D

We also have a daughter and we have to break the trips into segments. And sometimes there are advantages, price-wise, for travelling with kids.

We traveled from the Netherlands to Oslo by train last winter. Stopped over in Copenhagen for a few night to give the boys a rest, but it was still a long haul for them. I remember in the 90’s there were whole sections with playgrounds in them. I wonder if that’s still the case in Central Europe?

Still, I want to try another train trip with the kids, but I know I’ll face resistance, the prefer car drives.

The Czechs from RegioJet have a kids' space (RJ.cz), and I've been told about the Swiss SBB tho I didn't try this one. What route are you looking for your next trip?

Nothing planned yet, but I’d like to take them to Switzerland to see some mountains. I’ve recently seen that there are some nice sleepers from Amsterdam to Zurich, which is probably the best option. I think it might be more fun for them to get on a train at night and wake up in the morning in a new country.

The Amsterdam - Zürich sleeper train is operated by the Austrian Nightjet.

Only for the night trains:

For the "whole" company, so to speak:

https://www.oebb.at/en/

The second option has an app too, which I recommend.

You usually leave from Amsterdam at 20:15 and arrive in Zürich the next day at 08:05. You can also get the train only to Basel, and you'll arrive a little earlier, at 06:20.

That being said, there are quite a few options for day trains that you can split for 2 different days, with an average of roughly 3 and a half hours of train travel each day, which should be more comfortable for kids.

(Please stop zapping me all the time, now I feel like I have to give something in return. 😂)

I zap instead of liking, if you don’t like it, haha, gfy, jk.

Those are the options I was looking at, I dislike the apps though. I just want a ticket the old fashioned way.

I can take a joke, no worries. 🍻

For the Netherlands, they should be able to help you with paper tickets.

This sounds great! I'd definitely be interested in an npub about European train travel.

I would definitely follow that npub, love traveling by train in Europe.

It's done, I need criticism.
