Laptop repair hell... Don't even bother to open a modern day laptop. 5 hours later, keyboard fixed and battery replaced. Lesson learned: Better to order a new one and save yourself the hassle of 70+ tiny screws, ribbon cables, weird connectors and a whole bunch of tape to keep it all together. Ahhh good old consumer laptops. They're only designed to get through one to two years of operation and one one year without a significant defect or component failure. That's all cost saving.
You can get an extended planned obsolescence by going with a business product line like a ThinkPad, Latitude, or EliteBook. Stay away from the prosumer stuff like the plague as manufacturers regularly do one off production runs and never restock service parts.
Personally, I'm making the switch to products from companies like #Purism, #Framework, and #MNT. In all cases these companies have contributed a significant amount of their service documents, schematics, and design know-how to the public square by engaging in the #OpenSourceHardware ecosystem. #righttorepair
