If the malware number doesn't go down meaningfully after this bug, there can be only the following two reasons: -

1) Shitcoin core devs might be running multiple malware nodes and they might be getting funding to do this job from gay corrupt VCs.

2) Noderunners have become NPCs like fiat maximalists who would run anything that their favorite ExPeRtS or simpfluencers tell them to run.

I can't imagine any other scenarios when the malware number stays high after this kind of blow up by shitcoin core devs.

Let's see how everything unfolds but in the meantime you can always fight this tyranny/incompetence of shitcoin core devs by running BIP110 (aka BIP444) on your node.
