Under my wig I actually have a frohawk (Afro Mohawk) because AfroPunk is the way to go~

Posting also for educational reasons since a lot of people haven't seen black hair up close and have questions.

I'm about to chemically straighten my hair so it's easier for me to manage and this is the before with my 4C hair.

Until I dated a black person I had no idea how complicated and potentially frustrating black hair could be. It’s amazing and beautiful too, but it's not easy. I also was completely unaware that there was a code system for hair types! That and the way people want to touch black hair was a surpise and how much that touching can mess up a person's hair too!

It IS complicated and can be very frustrating to deal with especially with the lack of knowledge on how to properly maintain it (I've found plenty of black people still struggle maintenance while trying to fit in societys standards), I hope we can all heal/learn to take better care of our noggins.

I'm glad you learned something new, there 12 different hair types actually. Some people (like myself) can have multiple hair types on their head! Sometimes when I shave it off and it regrows sometimes the texture is different than it was before!

I applaud your recognition of this, truly. Having people ask to touch your hair is probably the most frustrating thing in the world since I know it comes from a place of curiosity most of the time. I've had to learn to set boundaries but still let people have that experience without either party being/feeling disrespected.

Are you going to Afro punk this year?

Did it not already pass? 😯

Are you doing the relaxer and are you doing this by yourself?

I believe if you can find a straight perm with keratin, if would be less damaging to do yourself.

As a cosmetologist, I personally use Matrix : Opti Smooth (Sensitive, Normal, Resistant)

If you have a friend in cosmetology or have a license, this is an easy purchase.

If you don't, then let me know.

I hadn't heard of it before, I definitely need to check it out! Thank you for telling me about it, I've been using the same brand since I was kid.

This is everything I'm using right now, I'm conditioning my hair before I put the perm in because my hair was already kinda dry and I just wanted to moisturize it without washing out the oils beforehand. I'm planning to do the deep mask afterwards as well.

If I fuck it up and my hair starts to break, I'll just shave my head again and start over lmao.

The brand for hair doesn’t matter to me, but as long as its pH balance is around 4.5 - 5.5 for the product and it’s not longer than 2 years old.

Design Essentials : Milk & Honey 6N1 Reconstructive Conditioner is a great after care hair mask for after the relaxer if you need a professional deep repair.

I need to hurry up and get my license so I can come to you because I know you're a cosmetic genius and I love you for it ❤️‍🔥

If you need tips on cutting or anything at home, I'm always a hivetalk away.

I have mannequins and I can video you a tutorial 👍

A superwoman 🥺🫂💕

I have questions - like why hasn't the zoo put you back in the gorilla exhibit yet?

Permed my hair finally.

I truly love my natural hair, but that shit is THICK, I'm talking straight out of Africa, so the maintenance is too much for me to deal with while I'm still learning to braid my own hair.

Heres a speed run of me putting the relaxer in and the before/after of my hair once I rinsed it.

Right now I'm conditioning my hair and I will post pictures when I'm finished and styled.
