The secret is, no can teach, except the student. You can get them to teach themselves via curiosity or by fear. I've seen good teachers rule by fear, and good teachers basically just play in class. Mediocre or bad teachers seem to usually confuse teaching with performance, and when they don't get great results, they perform harder.

My kids are 16 and 18. Boy and a girl. They have never been grounded by me. Never have we had am argument. I'm good friends with both. They both have great hobbies and excel at everything. No time outs required. No yelling. Just let them play and be there for them.

Then they love you for it and want to please yoi because there is trust.

I guess that's parenting but that feels a lot like being a teacher.

Its the the path of least resistance. Its easy. We sometimes get blinded by what we see other people do or repeat what our parents do..
