If you're "surprised" by unfolding events in our world, it "may" be that the model you're using to judge it is faulty.
and I say that realizing how easy it is for our brains to discount/dismiss data that doesn't match our model.

Hey Jeff, I'm an artist living most of my life on the outside looking into the dominant human systems even the art industry I'm involved in. I can't say it was by choice but it looks like it's helping look forward to the future. The intersting question then is how do I find out if my model is adequate?
If every model is prone to bias through the perspective that it takes is it even possible to overcome the "perspective-ness" of models?
The answer of the postmodern thinkers would be: no. And they'd add that everything therefore is a power struggle where the winner takes it all.
It's not so easy to argue against this model, but anyone who is interested in doing so, I'd warmly recommend the book by James K.A. Smith: The Fall of Interpretation.
A hint where to look and what to look: a community that guards an agreed upon set of interpretation-rules...!
