I fiat mine in the legal/financial world so I completely get where nostr:npub1t0nyg64g5vwprva52wlcmt7fkdr07v5dr7s35raq9g0xgc0k4xcsedjgqv is coming from. Custodial and hosted are similar terms with parallel meanings, implying a level of centralized control, but have significantly different legal financial implications.

Custodial means a central entity holds and controls funds on behalf of the user.

Hosted means a central entity controls the platform for a certain application or function.

This distinction is extremely important in the current hostile regulatory environment and it is vital not to conflagration the two publicly.

Again, Custodial implies certain very real financial legal responsibilities, mandatory registrations, and consequences for noncompliance.

bruh, the whole point of Bitcoin is to stop thinking in this slave mentality

Tell that to the feds when they come knocking. 😉

That said... I'm with you, I'm on the mission, and i dont necessarily disagree with your sentiment. But these devs are putting themselves in very real danger when they build freedom tech. It is noble to strive for self sovereignty and disconnect from the fucked up fiat world but like it or not we live in a transition period where the powers that be are still very real and hostile.

Agree. But it's better to just do it all anonymously and opt out of all this mess.

The problem is they've got all kinds of resources. We have tools to fight them with at least. But one slipup and they gotcha.

But yeah ideally, we should all be anon with bulletproof opsec and build/live without fear. Unfortunately we're human and bound to fuck it up.

And as a side note, you're not wrong - they'll change the rules and rug ya as they like and expect you to say thank you. It'll undoubtedly get worse as they become more desperate and fight us harder.

Absolutely. You really do get it.

This is why I critizie Tony when he gets on his high horse about about how hard he complies with regulations and how dumb altetnative solutions are. We should be building the tech to make that all irrelevant. Anything else will fail the second regulators really start fighting us
