Asked about TikTokers migrating to RedNote in my CNBC segment.

Said it would probably be a short lived phenomenon. Then said “the TikTok refugees should go to Nostr.”

Explained that it was truly decentralized and even a far better option than Bluesky. The hosts didn’t know where to go after that.

Was great to preach the Nostr protocol on CNBC though.

Yeah, mouth agape, staring at you like you made some shit up on the spot and also aren’t sure if you’re joking or not or just slightly delusional.

Well done 👊

Basically yes. They had no idea what “a Nostr” was and quickly pivoted to “what about Elon buying TikTok?”

Nostr, you know, where the psychos GM themselves every morning, spreading PV while zapping sats at dank memes and V4V. You can literally tell someone to GFY and they will throw the hardest money at you.

That is awesome.

I would have loved to go into more depth, but knew better. Just made the case for Nostr as decentralized, moderation as a personal responsibility and the inability to ban.

Did finish my point by stating “Nostr has no CEO”.

Love it. Although nostr:npub18ams6ewn5aj2n3wt2qawzglx9mr4nzksxhvrdc4gzrecw7n5tvjqctp424 might take offense to that final statement. I think he’s still has the full confidence of the board of directors.

Who are my board members? I'd like to have 21 members.

Love Harambe. He's a good human. Approved.

I’m here ready to serve on the nostr board. The first thing I’d like to improve is the health of Bitcoin pizza day on nostr. Next Bitcoin pizza day we help nostriches get access to human local farmed carnivore pizzas! We can use nostr:npub15dc33fyg3cpd9r58vlqge2hh8dy6hkkrjxkhluv2xpyfreqkmsesesyv6e to handle the on protocol pizza day orders.

Seconded.

Thirded

I double nominate nostr:npub13tkusutqsx0yjr9szc4vhkxf5fkhne3aka84kxm9jwgp9yj20uzsnyllwf. The npub and deez actual nutz.

GFY!

There’s one of the psychos right now

NOH HUE

Well done. 🫡

Much appreciated. Knew I had an “in” given that they wanted to talk about all the TikTok “refugees” flocking to the new shinny social media object - aka RedNote (小红书).

Red Note sounds like Death Note but by the commies.

It's the algorithm pulling them in isn't it?

I also don't believe in the numbers of new users they claim to have

Maybe, but there’s no question that it has been an amazing cultural exchange this week between average Americans and Chinese. For me, it has been just been lovely to watch unfold.

That said, I’m the first to agree with just about every critique leveled against #China. What is also the case though is that all of those critiques are woefully incomplete. China ain’t no “Evil Empire 2.0”.

As for the numbers, the only thing I can say is that the RedNote feeds are now overwhelmed by American users. That’s been shocking to watch.

Sounds interesting indeed, i'm baffled that the chinese are even allowed to engage and see content outside of china.

Let's hope the americans can give them some perspective and good hope that the chinese might be free too one day.

Well, I’m doubtful this commingling between Chinese and Americans on RedNote will last much longer. #China is expected to aggressively geo-lock access in the coming days.

Still, what you see this week is a genuine outpouring of mutual interest and engagement and at a degree I’ve NEVER witnessed in all my years living in China.
