And what’s the obsession with getting in app in the App Store or Google Store?

Shouldn’t the focus be on a web client?

I just read nostr:nprofile1qqs04xzt6ldm9qhs0ctw0t58kf4z57umjzmjg6jywu0seadwtqqc75spp4mhxue69uhkvdm69e5k7tcpzamhxue69uhhyetvv9ujuurjd9kkzmpwdejhgtcgwadxk post the other day about #olas being rejected by Apple… for the second time.

I’m not surprised. I’m just curious as why people who shout about “decentralization” want to submit their work to a centralized source. Make it make sense. Pick a side. It feels wishy washy.

Meet people where they’re at.

People are on the internet. Meet them there.

This makes no sense, the internet doesn’t have distribution on its own which is why tcp was not enough and a bunch of products were built on top.

What doesn’t make sense? People can access a website or a web client is my point. There are other ways to meet people. An app from the app store isn’t required to reach people. But hey, if you want to keep submitting your product to a centralized source and keep getting rejected, then do you. 🤷‍♀️

True. But Apple doesn’t like your product in its current state. Are you going to try for a 3rd time?

Yes. It matters, I fucking hate it too and hate every minute of it, but just like I hate doing many things that are important.

Isn’t standing on principle more important? Are you willing to water down your product just to be accepted by Apple? Also, Isn’t there are ZapStore where people can upload/download apps. If apps are so important, shift the focus to there.

There are benefits to a native application that give devs access to device and OS specific features. I enjoy Apple’s app scrutiny 90% of the time but it comes with drawbacks; and yes, centralization and KYC sucks. I do want all non-malicious apps to be permitted and be available to me, but their monetary walled-garden is a rub.

Cool. But if we know there are issues with apps being rejected/taken down as seen with Damus a while back, then why trip when they reject a similar app. At the same time, there’s a lot of people screaming decentralization around here but still want to go to a centralized source. Seems hypocritical to me.

Yeah. Transitions are hard. The transition is just beginning, so it’s very hard and unpaved.

Isn’t there are ZapStore where people can upload/download apps. If apps are so important, shift the focus to there.

I still like the iPhone for the wholistic UX superiority. The drawbacks don’t outweigh the benefits at this point, and I would not yet entertain a switch. Many others feel the same, so until there’s a way to selectively snag applications outside of iOS’s ecosystem, there’ll be a draw for an attractive and sizable audience to be found on iOS. Drawbacks to iOS open doors for the transition to be built. It’s coming. Just not easily and not soon. Traction in both ecosystems often lubricates a transition. For many apps seeking adoption and growth there’s value in having a presence in both environments.

I understand your point. I’m just saying that after being rejected twice, at what point does someone stand on principle for the product they built and believe in? If someone makes a decentralized app *on purpose*, then why try to force it in a centralized source? It seems contradictory. For example, Olas is supposed to be the decentralized version of IG. So why be surprised when it’s rejected by the centralized App Store. Please tell me you understand my point. Otherwise, we can respectfully agree to disagree.

I totally get your point of view. 🤙

Different tactics for different priorities.

The web is crapshit.

Isn’t Nostr built on the web? If not, explain away. I’m all ears.

Is Zapstore good?

Maybe. Maybe not. But it definitely has room for improvement.
