15 % of entire global bandwidth is consumed by Netflix :-) YouTube and Tiktok combined consume the next 15% :-)

Yes, but I was referring to nostr client data.

Yup ... my point was when absolutely useless things (netflix) waste so much data .. and people are willing to pay for them .. why worry for nostr ... not even .00000001 % of global data use .. will cross the bridge when nostr competes with at least tiktok ..

That said - multiplicity of relays is a feature .. in fact the idea is everyone should have their own relay ... more of them means better censor resistance and fault tolerance for the network ..

Not to say - more data consumption ain't painful .. it is ..particularly if you are traveling with a costly data plan ... the problem is nostr clients dont even support the "data saver" mode ... but overall , it is still not a problem that someone should really prioritize for ... my 2 !

- Reduce your relay list to less than 5 relays. Or just use a single bostr relay nostr:npub1x3azxuysp5vmfer4vgs4jn5tmfcx4ew8sh0qnev7gczljxsr7jwqa3g4el

- Deactivate loading embedded links/media

- Use a more lightweight client. Voyage on Android for example.

Use a bouncer.

See https://bostr.lecturify.net for list of bounced/proxied relays.

To use it in your nostr client, Try to only use ONLY 1 relay, that is the bouncer. wss://bostr.lecturify.net

Except if you have paid relays, You will need to add manually to your client.

If you have trust issue, You could self host.

There are two flavor of bostr.

https://github.com/Yonle/bostr (NodeJS) (Suited for public/private use)

https://github.com/Yonle/bostr2 (Go Lang) (Suited for public/private use, but require the need of VPN like tailscale/zerotier/wireshark/openvpn for private use only)
