chromebooks everywhere, deployed during covid
Discussion
actually no. we got chromebooks at my highscool in 2017.
we all got school mandated google accounts when i was in middle school around 2013/14
My kids school system it was during covid the drive to chromebooks got a lot more intense, because every student had one sent home
okay well, all i know is that it was a big thing happening to all the schools around me in 2016/17
it belittles the argument on the privacy and safety of the schools i the usa by just blaming covid tbh. i understand it caused numerous of issues, but it’s always the scape goat for people to blame everything on so they don’t have to think hard for a few minutes.
covid was just the excuse for why it was necessary to put a chromebook in every kids hands, before that every classroom only had about 5-10. Now GOOGLE has pure vendor lockin, because every kid now also has a google account. ANd we all know those terms of service allow for full tracking of everything that account does. Including searches!! its terrible thing to have happened.
but it was a thing before covid is what you’re not understanding. every student had a chromebook years before the lockdowns. it was just implemented later for your children’s school. you are correct about the terms of services, but correlating to covid just makes the argument weak
what you arent understanding is that not everywhere was like what you experienced lol. In my neck of the woods yes there were chromebooks before it, but because of covid the schools in my district went all in on chromebooks. That part is no matter, the problem is an entire generation of public schools kids are vendor lockin to google now. Not to meantion a whole generation of kids that have no concept of a PC only a locked down glorified browser
“not everywhere was like what you experienced”
“in my neck of the woods” while proceeding to share your personal experience.
alright.
lol shitpost somewhere else, we are literally trying to inform everyeone about the same thing, but you want to fight about semantics. 🤔
i’m just saying it makes the argument dumb by just being like “because covid”
it excludes any actual depth to your POV.
The schools in my area had a similar timeline to nostr:npub1csamkk8zu67zl9z4wkp90a462v53q775aqn5q6xzjdkxnkvcpd7srtz4x9 then with covid chromebooks were ordered and sent home all the way down to kindergarten. My sister’s kids were with me and my parents all together. It was the beginning and so much was unknown. She’s a nurse and was working covid wards. Didn’t want to risk exposing her kids. Virtual kindergarten was so weird. The other was in high school. It seemed more normal to me because I had taken college classes online. Google in multiple ways has a monopoly. It didn’t start with covid. Schools just went harder with the systems they already had set up.
i understand now, man i feel for the kids who went through virtual. i barely made it out graduating in 2019
I feel for the kids who were supposed to start college in Fall 2020. I know some who deferred. So many school/ personal experiences were lost.
school mandated 🤯
yeah, we spent the whole day setting it up and started using it for everything then on. never thought anything of it until now, it’s weird having a company control every school that way
