Question I’m pondering:
Is digital man better off than analog man?
I was lucky enough to live my youth in analog world and my adult life in digital world. Like listening to vinyl versus streaming music, I find digital “life” misses heart.
Am I on to something or just waxing nostalgic, waving my fist at the digital cloud?
"Better off" is one of those really unhelpful terms. We don't need to be able to quantify something to make comparisons, but we do need to at least define broadly what we're talking about.
Are we better off being able to interact on Nostr, compared to when we were kids and were not able to talk to a friend unless we were both sitting at the home phone at the convened time?
Wasn’t there something magical about locating yourself in the same space & time to have that conversation though? I relish the convenience we have today, but the serendipity of your example is gone.
You are definitely on to something, but I would look a bit deeper into how the fiat mind is joined to the hip with the modern digital life. Similarly to how architecture used to be magnificent and beautiful but now it’s been “standardised” and looks so dull.
I’ve considered this as well and wondered (and hoped) that by separating money and state, digital life becomes more fulfilling. Hard to say without a counter factual yet another reason to lean into Bitcoin though!
