I almost want to learn latin to read things like De Architectura in its original form. I’m super impressed by builders from antiquity. Wondering what can be learned from them. Maybe even in relation to software architecture:

Strength: code quality and robustness

Utility: does the code actually does something useful

Beauty: aesthetics and ux

People were thinking about these things for a long time before us, and the things they build still stand today and are beautiful. We’ve lost a lot of wisdom.

Have you read D’arcy Thompson? I know generally you’re going much further back historically but “On Growth and Form” is a dense dive into the structural design of the natural world.

Only just started reading in this area, appreciate recommendations!

I find this video of a 1957 conversation between Frank Lloyd Wright and Mike Wallace pretty instructive in regard to thinking about building. It even addresses decentralization.

The craziest part is that we couldn't build things like they used to even if we wanted to

Why not?

Allegedly we don't have the skills or knowledge anymore

Il n'est jamais trop tard pour apprendre , commencez déjà par la grammaire et conjugaison surtout votre jeune garçon...
