I'm graduating in one week and I'm most excited about removing the Windows VM from my computer.

If I go to grad school, I will buy a fucking Mac before subjecting myself to that torture again.

Congrats! For graduating and deleting windows 😂

I hadn't used it outside of my heathcare job (and even that's almost entirely the EMR software) in over a decade. A VM was all I was willing to do lol

Funny enough, I actually thought XP and 7 was pretty good. Microsoft is the problem more than the actual OS. They've ruined it. If it were FOSS, I probably would consider using it. Maybe.

Congrats on graduating fren!

Besides the gulag tech, I'm kind of a fan of Windows engineering, internals, kernel stuff etc. I like developing on Windows. Unfortunately I also enjoy using Windows after spending over a decade learning how to gut it and lock it down.

GNU just can't really beat the products, lifecycle, support, docs, speed etc.

I'm sure my disagreement comes from being balls deep in the GNU side for almost 20 years. It's better than it's ever been for most of those things. But it's also a massive world (not really a single thing like Windows), which does make it less cohesive in many ways compared to Microsoft bundled products or especially the Mac ecosystem.

And to be fair, it's Microsoft that I hate more than the actual OS. This isn't a technical issue as much as their bullshit.

100%

VM for what? Linux?

Congrats!
