#asknostr

This happened to me after clicking an Npub link in the body of a amethyst note:

My Android phone started downloading a series of 6 Zip files that took at least 10 minutes a piece

"En_fr.zip"

"En_it.zip"

Etc

I assumed they were offline maps for Google maps.

I tried cancelling them, but they would always start again.

A day later, I left Amethyst open on phone screen and when I unlocked phone again I noticed that my phone had composed a draft Note that was not something I would write. I also don't think it's something that was voice to text.

Is it possible for someone to put a program that instructs download manager to download zip files and execute them in a link that looks like an NPUB?

I was imagining this was like a web scraper that hijacked open Amethyst and attempted to post weird content.

Most likely it was just a scheduled download that I've never noticed before.

Creeped me out that my phone is downloading zip files that I have no idea what's in them.

It's "just" language files for automatic translation of notes!

What do you mean? You're as reassuring as an Alice in Wonderland character

So here on nostr people write in many languages. Per default foreign languages are translate automatically. You can see this under a post "Auto translated from German to English".

You can tap on it and deactivate it.

Thank you AverageJoe!

No Problem. I was wondering about that too!
