Bullish on City States

I heard this episode around 2 years ago, it was the first time I was introduced to the idea that monarchies can function better than democracies.

I think that whatever governance style that respects property rights the most (bonus points for the right of succession) would win. But in a scenario where I had to choose between 2 countries, one with a democracy and another one with a monarchy, with well established property rights, I would choose the monarchy because of more likely lower time preference baked into that system.
