Just a couple years ago, advancements were being made at huge pace.

I feel #Lightning deviated from self-custody accessibility to centralised convenience..

By wanting to reduce risk, you're CREATING risk. This is what #Bitcoin taught us in the first place.

I think companies like nostr:npub1getal6ykt05fsz5nqu4uld09nfj3y3qxmv8crys4aeut53unfvlqr80nfm don't have the user and their sats' safety at the forefront of their interest.

What they stand for, goes against the Bitcoin ethos. And without a centralised LN, they've got nothing.

We need a spark that rethinks and redesigns self-custody with accessibility at the forefront, lightning or not.

Hello sir,

If you have seen our recent update - we have limited creation of new Alby Accounts, exactly to have sats's safety in mind and encourage users for self-custody.

Alby Account is a great starter to lightning, but we build open-source tools (and recent update makes us focus on that more) that enable self-sovereignty and decentralization to highest extent.

Please let us know what in your opinion goes against Bitcoin ethos in things we do?

Take care!

Thanks for your response.

Let's see..

"we have limited creation of new Alby Accounts" - So much for Bitcoin's mission on inclusion..

"Introducing invite codes for signups helps us to **selectively** onboard new users." - Almost seems like censorship..

I'm not stating you've added no value to the eco-system(s), you absolutely have and I personally recognise that, but the way it's been done with such focus on custodianship, is alarming at best, a bad omen at worst.

Frame it as an "update", but you took a step back in the service you provide by limiting WHO can use said service, a service whose infrastructure was already faulty relying on this amount of centralisation.
