People pay for so many services these days, including X blue checks!

Don’t tell me people won’t also pay for a nostr client subscription, which is very affordable on nostr:npub18m76awca3y37hkvuneavuw6pjj4525fw90necxmadrvjg0sdy6qsngq955 for instance. Give them some perks, a badge, and maybe bundle prices with things like a nostr.build account, etc.

It’s not about paying, per se, but about how it’s packaged and presented. Make it clear your data isn’t being harvested and how nostr is the future. Make it cool! People will buy.

I feel like Nostr data, being fully open IS being harvested by anyone who wants to. It’s just not harvested and hoarded preferentially by any party…

Well, in terms of user speech and things they give to notes and relays (include ip address), sure.

But it’s not harvesting OTHER data behind the scenes is the point. Nor selling it.

Public data on nostr can be harvested by anyone, and will be abused. The more nostr grows the more bad actors will take notes, pun intended. And the algorithms are comming. But nostr is more than public data.

The power to the user is the ability to walk away from any client or relay that changes their motto from "don't be evil" to "do the right thing".

Possibly and probably, that’s why you still have to protect yourself by not posting specifics… anyone can plug a npub into any client and potentially see everything that npub has done, the protection to that is that, only an nsec will sign a note or other stuff so they can see what you did, but can’t pose as you. Eventually hopefully clients will have more protections, but remember how secure the internet was in 1992… that’s where Nostr is right now

Well said.
