When you say largely, I'm guessing you're excluding hydroelectricity? Excellent source of power, near-zero emissions beyond construction, and can be easily dialed up and down to meet demand. Just watch out for the salmon lobby :p

Yes hydro is exempt from this. I'm thinking more of intermittent renewables like wind and solar.
