Does anyone else have a problem with keeping raw milk fresh ?

I haven't found local dairy in my area but I am able to find raw milk at my local grocery store. The only problem I have is once I open the container it only last 2-3 days regardless of the expiration date. My refrigerator is running cold and I don't have that problem with pasteurized milk at all. I'm not sure if these is a me problem or if other people are experiencing this as well.

Why would raw milk last as long as pasteurized milk?

I am not expecting it to last as long as pasteurized milk but I would like more then 48 hours. Even if it was just 4 days I would be fine with that.

The whole point of pasteurizing milk is to kill bacteria that make milk go bad faster.

Raw milk is only supposed to last max 10 days or so. Make sure there is no bacteria in the fridge that can go in the milk and ask your grocery store when it was milked.

The people at the store don't know. The sell by date is best predictor of bottling date. I was thinking maybe I was doing something wrong since it rarely last 36 hours after opening the bottle. Between the wife and I we down a gallon in about 4 days. I would like it to at least last that long.

For sure. Raw milk goes bad quicker but tastes much better.

Here in Germany we have Rawmilk which is not heated. You normally don't get in a supermarket and you can keep it only 2-3 days in the fridge. Then there is fresh milk which gets heated only for some seconds and not so high heated. And then there is H Milk which you can if not opened keep outside the fridge. So perhaps you should look for fresh milk if you want to keep it longer.
