🔥 looking for testers – big bitchat android update 1.6.0-rc1

BACKGROUND PERSISTENCE: this update introduces background services! that means, bitchat can run in the background and support the mesh, even if you leave the app.

TOR: we're now also compiling the arti tor library ourselves, which improves reproducibility and reduces the apk size from 150 to 10 mb (lol).

this is a pre-release for testers. would love to get some feedback. does it work on your phone? please report bugs (including phone brand and OS version) in this thread!

Seems fine. Huawei P30 Pro (quite an old phone now). EMUI version 12.0.0; I think that's the Android version

The only issue I'm seeing is that it sometimes doesn't see messages from geohash chats. I'll try to clarify further and make sure I have some clear data. And the issue probably isn't new, and I'm guessing it might be related to the other systems I am checking with (bitchat.land)

I didn't get a chance to test the mesh with anybody

Even when I swipe the app away, which normally closes it, I still see the bitchat notification running. Sol that's good

more details on that issue I mentioned. I'm going to guess it's about relay choice or something, and not specific to this new version

I wrote these two messages from my phone (PoW12, but with Tor OFF) to #21m:

In bitchat.land, I was able to see those two messages. Also, in between those two messages, I wrote messages from bitchat.land, some with higher PoW:

and so I'm surprised that those messages are not visible in my phone. Is bitchat.land writing to relays that my phone doesn't read from?

All these messages are also visible in https://bitchatworldview.com/ , so I'm not sure why my Android (running this 1.6.0-rc1) is the only outlier, not able to see any other messages in #21m.
