Wernher von Braun, a prominent figure in rocket and space-flight technology, was brought to the United States through Operation Paperclip and assimilated into NASA's space program.
He had been a member of the Nazi party and an SS officer, working on the V-2 missile in Germany before being transferred to the U.S. where he continued his work on missile technology at Fort Bliss and later in Huntsville, Alabama.
