Ok let's say a merchant doesn't know anything about #Bitcoin, much less lightning. How do they go about setting up a non custodial lightning wallet to accept payments for goods they're selling?

If the answer isn't "download this app, set up a new wallet and that's it" then it's too hard and we won't have mass adoption from small business which is crucial for this to work.

Please tell me solutions are in the works.

Closest thing I have is set up phoenix or breez. But 6ou still have to add some Bitcoin to those so 5he app can create channels.

Currently if a business wants to start accepting credit cards (non custodial), is it as easy as download app, set up a new wallet and thats it?

Yes of course. In a custodial manner that is. If you want people to be able to use their own money and not rely on trust them we better find a solution that's easier to adopt than the legacy system. Otherwise, people choose convenience over privacy or sovereignty.

Im not sure i agree. Easy is what got us here. Maybe easy wont get us out. Of course things will get better and easier to a point, but personal responsibility isnt necessarily without effort. We'll see how it goes.

Also, it's literally that easy for mainnet... Not sure why this is an unreasonable ask.

Its not necessarily that easy on-chain. You have to backup your seed and you should do that in a robust way, like stamping into metal.

All I'm saying is people should be able to use the lightning network in a non custodial way without having to know how to use a command line.

You can already use lightning non custodial without command line. But I understand your point, and am hopeful about getting to a good enough solution

I think solutions like Muun are promising. If I could have a wallet like Muun and be able to recover it with a seed and set up a non custodial ln address, that would be the ideal solution.

I was going to mention muun. Muun iirc is a 2 of 2 multisig and you get both keys so you can rdcover without them. There are also the node in a box solutions too like mynode/umbrel/etc.

Obfuscating mainnet and lightning in one wallet like Muun is great for end user experience. I do wish you could see more details through optional settings though.

Ultimately the solution I like best is the node in a box. It encourages would be users to actually learn about the systems they're using. The problem with node boxes right now is that a lot of the out of the box plug and play solutions I think are best for the consumer market are too expensive. Sure you can build your own for dirt cheap but there should be an option I can just buy for around 150 to $200 plug it in turn it on and I can start configuring something as simple as unrel that's already pre-installed.

I agree id like optional "advanced" options on muun. As for node in a box my biggest concern besides price (especially lately) is insecure hardware.

Open source hardware is a must
