Hi Jack,

I’m a customer from Europe. How will the new MiCa regulation affect buying, selling and most importantly sending (self custody) Bitcoin?

The path EU took is very clear, close, create friction and control all exit doors from FIAT.

Just received this email the other day. Very likely strike will have to do same things..

I wonder how Strike will do this as they adopted lightning on their platform… how to do KYC on that thing

And I also assume bill pay won’t come to Europe? ☹️☹️☹️ nostr:npub1cn4t4cd78nm900qc2hhqte5aa8c9njm6qkfzw95tszufwcwtcnsq7g3vle

I don't know also because bitfinex does use already lightning too..

Anyway, here in EU normies and overall are sleeping about how burocrats are acting to prevent and control adoption and bitcoin usage. There's almost no-one pushing and we don't have powerful or influent actors like in the States.

Honestly the only plan I have is stacking as much as possible over the coming 10 years. Become a sovereign and free individual. Quitting my fiat job and leaving Europe for a beautiful place where regulation is much more in favor of Bitcoin

Same goal fren, exactly same.. but I wonder we have 10 years. I am afraid we don't have much time before we'll be forced to take the decision to leave in order to stay sovereign.. I believe we have 5 or 7 years max 🥲

Why not? What can they do about self custody and P2P

As long as I don’t sell (what I not intend to do) they can’t do much. I’ll keep stacking and I really hope we can one day meet each other on the beautiful place and talk about the journey 🫂🧡

Yeah, impossible to get us to give up our bitcoin and they can't force it from us. They could try with a wealth tax. In UK I was really worried Starmer government was going to introduce in recent budget. Luckily they only increased CGT from 20% to 24%. But the trend is heading towards that direction. Europe is similar no doubt.

I don’t own Bitcoin, lost it all in a boating accident

I don't think thay can do much physically to our stack or avoiding p2p but they can make bitcoiners lifes in their states very uncomfortable, like they did in Covid period with who was asking question and not following the narrative.

But, we'll win..

Oh I'm so sorry to hear this. My heart 🧡 goes out to you. 🙊

They increased the basic band of CGT from 10% to 18% too. That’s going to capture a lot of people. And before that, the yearly CGT allowance has fallen from £12,300 (22/23) to £3,000 now. That’s a cynical Gov play IMO and a way to round up those who dabbled in asset investment or small side gigs especially during those lockdowns periods etc.

Its terrible jamw, affects smaller players, people with not so much money. How much tax will they increase by doing this? Insignificant. So cruel 😈. People are stretched thin with inflation and everything else. 👀

Totally.

They also seem to forget that if the small plebs make a bit of cash, many will spend more thereby boosting the economy and tax revenue (VAT etc).
