Ah, we must be fairly similar era’s then..
I started on Wang mainframes.. still remember the buzz when the first hard drives IBM PC jr in the offices.. a single 10mb hard drive, no floppies 🤣
Even wrote an email system for it around ‘87/88. Got to travel around all our offices in Europe and US setting up X.25 networks etc. Those were fun days.
How tech has changed, to think our iPhones have more power and storage than those data centres 🤣
Gladly admit I’m an old bastard!
X.25 now that's a blast from the past 😂
Not sure if you ever experienced Wang’s.. I wrote the email system in Procedure language. My first foray into programming. It was great, but slooooow. Once the company saw it, and got excited, I self taught COBOL, and that made a huge performance boost.
Alrighty, really going. G’night for now. Good luck with the clipboard.
No, sorry, I don't think I ever used it, but COBOL was my language of choice.
We had a Hungarian mainframe copied from a Bull Mitre MTM2 machine.
My father had imported Videoton loudspeakers from there, which became a huge success and so started a lifelong relationship with Hungary.
To this day, I can swear like a trooper in fluent Magyar 😂
